assignment 2 - children's book illustrations

for this assignment i chose from a list of possible children's book scripts, and created 2 two-page spreads, in a cubist style. i chose a story called "The Best Galaxy". the first spread includes pages 2 and 3, and the second spread includes pages 10 and 11.

week 6 - abstraction thumbnails

for next illustration class we were to take an object, preferably one we would draw in our upcoming project, and do a bunch of thumbnail sketches, abstracting it in different ways. i chose a planet, as my next assignment is all set in outer space. it was kinda tough coming up with different ways to abstract a planet, because it's really just a sphere and a ring. i did a bunch, scanned them in and compiled them below.

this exercise really did help for the next assignment, though, as it gave me some ideas for how i'm going to draw personified galaxies.

week 5 - life drawing with shapes

these are some of the roughly 3 minute drawings from live models i did in class today. the last one was about drawing the negative space instead of the actual model. it was a lot of fun once i started getting the hang of it.
